Elementary Spanish 2

Alvaro A. Bernal, Elementary Spanish 2, Spring 2018

Course Description:

A thorough introduction (along with SPAN 0111) to Spanish grammar, with extensive practice in four skills: reading, writing, understanding, and speaking. This course is a natural continuation of Elementary Spanish I. Emphasis is placed on practical vocabulary and the oral use of the language along with proper use of grammar and cultural information. Language learning is a gradual progress, in which one skill leads to the next, and in which basic skills form the basis for more advanced skills. Classroom time will be used for intensive language practice in meaningful contexts (i.e,. applying important grammatical concepts, essential vocabulary, and cultural norms needed to maintain basic communication). Class time will consist of communication activities and, when necessary, brief grammatical explanations. Students are expected to study and complete the exercises in the workbook outside of class, in addition to unfinished activities in your textbook. The class will be conducted in Spanish and students should attempt to use Spanish as much as possible.

Required Texts:

- Easy Spanish Step-By-Step 1st Edition by Barbara Bregstein. McGraw-Hill Education.
- Barron's Spanish-English Pocket Dictionary: American style English to Spanish -- Spanish to English (Barron's Pocket Bilingual Dictionaries). Margaret Cop. Barron's Educational Series.
